Southerland/Breeden Wedding

Mallory Southerland and Josh Breeden were married on August 1st at New Market Baptist Church in Jefferson City, TN. You might remember their e-session near the TN River and Worlds Fair park. Mallory was a STUNNING bride. I absolutely could not wait for the wedding after I shot her Bridal session a couple months prior. This couple is truly in LOVE and it showed throughout the entire day.

We started the day with Mallory and all eight of her bridesmaids at Panache Hair & Body Salon in Knoxville, TN. LOVE this salon! It was so distinctive and stylish (hence the name). All the girls had a great time spending the morning together. We took a LIMO from the salon to the church for the girls to get ready. Then we took the limo to Carson-Newman College to get some amazing shots of the bride and bridesmaids.

The guys were loads of fun as well. Josh is a very special guy. His proposal was planned out so that Mallory's family would be there when he asked her to be his wife. They even had it videoed and played the proposal at the beginning of the ceremony. Very thoughtful Josh! He is a manager with Wal-Mart Corporation and he has a TON of personality. His cake was a replica of WM and Mallory even had a smiley sticker hidden in her bouquet :)

The Reception was at Angelo's At the Point on Douglas Lake and everyone had a blast dancing into the night. They had sparklers for their send-off (our absolute favorite!) and they rode off on a golf-cart down to a boat from the marina while fireworks went off as a last surprise! It was a perfect wedding day for this beautiful couple. And now...without further ado...Mallory and Josh, enjoy your slide show!

Lylah Combs - Slice of Life Collages

Lylah Louise Combs was our very first Slice of Life baby. She was born on September 9th, 2008. We have completed several sessions with this little angel and have put together a few collage designs to show how she has grown. We cannot wait to take her 1 year old photos in a few weeks. Time really flies!

Advice for the Bride-to-be

Photobucket

Just a few little tips before the big day ...

· Make your guest list first-it will help decide what style & size wedding to have
· Stay in budget but don’t compromise on the important stuff
· DIY projects - good to make your wedding personal but don’t overdo it
· Delegate. Delegate. Delegate –
stuffing envelopes, wrapping gifts for the wedding party, folding programs, tying ribbon (trust me no one will notice if they are all not perfect)
· Make an emergency kit : bobby pins, needle and thread, lipstick on hand, safety pins, scotch tape, etc
· Spend some quality time with your fiancĂ© before the wedding day
· No errands/planning on the wedding day
· Get some sun
· Get pampered
· Sleep
· Eat
· Stay Hydrated
· Wear comfy shoes
· Print a schedule for the day so everyone will know where they need to be & when
· Always have a smile on your face. Candid photos look much better when you do!
· Thank your parents
· Have the maid of honor say a prayer before the ceremony
· Kiss your Dad
· BREATHE - take in every minute
· It’s ok to cry – it is an emotional day
· Have some quick alone time for the new Mr. and Mrs. after the ceremony
· Pay your vendors before the wedding day – don’t want to worry about finances at that point
· Ask someone to take your gifts and cards to your home or somewhere safe after the wedding
· Practice bustling your dress at least once before the wedding day
· Be sure people have directions to the reception
· Make sure the bridal party knows to wait outside if they are being announced into the reception
· Don’t cut the cake too early – then people might think the party is ending
· Have a toast
· Dance
· Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks – it is YOUR DAY

Our best piece of advice:
Choose your Photographer wisely – look at their work, style, and testimonials. You might spend up to 20% of your budget on a photographer but the results will let you enjoy 100% of the day for the rest of your life.

IT'S FOOTBALL TIME IN TENNESSEE!

After attending the Big Orange Bash tonight I felt it would be appropriate to post an image with a little school spirit. UT kicks off their season opener tomorrow against Western Kentucky. Sadly, I will not be in attendance because I will be shooting my 8th wedding of the year in Kingsport but I cannot wait!! Even though I can't be at the game physically I will still be cheering on my VOLS in spirit! Now, here is a little orange and white for ya! This image was taken with my D300 in one of my photography classes at UT last semester. I forgot I even took these until the other day. I love the view of the Henley Street Bridge during football season and during BOOMSDAY, another popular annual event I WILL be partaking in this weekend. CAN'T WAIT! GOOOO BIG ORANGE!!!!!! :)

HELP>PORTRAIT

Hello Everyone! Time for another announcement. Here is something that I am super excited to have found out about through another photographer colleague of mine working in Nashville, TN. Her name is Kristen (Eddleman) Steele. I have recently added her to my blog roll on the right "Other sites to check out." Be sure to visit her website at http://kristensteelephotography.com if you live in the Nashville area. She does great work!

Anyways, onto the announcement. There is a movement planned for individual photographers and teams just like ours to give back to our community and those in need this holiday season! It is called Help Portrait. I am happy to announce that the Overbay Photography team will be participating in this movement in some capacity. Large or small, we do not know. The details...when, where, who, how...are yet to be determined. We need your help! If you have any ideas PLEASE SHARE! Send us a quick note to kristen@overbayphotography.net or better yet, leave us your comments below.

Here is a little video promo with more details. Please take a moment to watch and send us your thoughts.
